1959 356A Convertible D
This one had all the makings of a new high, did it fall short?

Only 1,331 examples of the 356A Convertible D were produced, making it one of the rarer open-top Porsche models. Built for just one model year by coachbuilder Drauz (hence the “D”), it succeeded the Speedster with a more usable package, including a taller windshield, roll-up side windows, comfort seats, and an improved soft top—all while retaining the low, sleek proportions that defined the earlier car. It served as an interim solution before the 356B Roadster arrived in 1960.
This 1959 356A Convertible D was refinished in its original Silver Metallic in 2024, returning it to factory-correct presentation after previously being Red. The interior was also refreshed at that time, featuring Black leatherette upholstery and Charcoal squareweave carpets. Mechanically, the dual Zenith carburetors were rebuilt in 2024 along with a new Dansk fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel level sender, starter, valve cover gaskets, and exhaust manifold gasket during the same period. A very nice car with plenty of documentation of the work in the gallery along with detailed photos, receipts, and confirmation of matching numbers via the CoA.
Over the last twelve months only two Convertible Ds have hammered sold, one that sold for $215,000 and another at $322,500. Our Spotlight car was a price example, and definitely capable of setting a new twelve-month high, but bids fell short, with the final bid hitting only $255,251.
