1960 356B Super 90 GT Coupe
One of only fourteen Super 90 GT Coupes crosses the block... again

Just 14 examples of the 356B Super 90 Coupe were ordered with the lightweight GT package, making it one of the rarest 356 variants built. Designed for racing, the Super 90 GT shed more than 200 pounds compared to the standard production coupe through the use of aluminum body panels, plexiglass windows, and a pared-down interior. Inside, the cars were fitted with speedster seats, leather-strap window lifts, and a roll bar to suit competitive driving. Power came from the robust 1600cc pushrod engine, which, while less exotic than the 4-cam units found in other race-oriented 356s, was prized for its reliability and ease of service.
This 1960 356B Super 90 GT was one of just 14 Coupes produced and came finished in Condor Yellow with desirable options including an 80-liter fuel tank, headlight stone guards, and a dimmable rearview mirror. Originally delivered to the Netherlands, it was later brought to Canada for racing before spending time in the US, where it competed in the PA Hillclimb Championship in 1963 and 1964. After its racing career, the car was refurbished by SML friend Cole Scrogham in the early ‘90s and went on to win Best in Class at the 1993 Porsche Parade, as well as earn a feature spot on the cover of Cole’s book, Porsche 356 Carrera.
As you can imagine, Super 90 GTs are few and far between when it comes to comps. We’ve only seen a handful cross the block over the years, including today’s Spotlight car, which failed to sell in 2023 at a final bid of $690,000. Another example in 2024 also went unsold, though at a higher bid of $730,000. This time around, our Spotlight car followed the same trend, failing to sell again, but this time at a much lower final bid of just $300,000.
