1964 356C Carrera 2 Coupe
This rare Four-Cam stopped just short of its last sale

The 356C Carrera 2 sat at the very top of the 356 hierarchy, representing the most race-focused road car Porsche produced during the model’s run. Power came from the four-cam Type 587/1 flat-four, displacing 1,966cc and producing 130 horsepower at 6,200 rpm, the most powerful engine Porsche had ever fitted to a production car at the time. Production was extremely limited, with an estimated 101 Coupes and roughly 30 Cabriolets built, and performance was matched by capability thanks to new ATE disc brakes and a rear transverse leaf spring setup that ensured braking and handling kept pace with the Carrera’s output.
This 1964 356C Carrera 2 Coupe was finished in Irish Green over a Black leatherette interior and had been repainted some time ago, with exterior trim rechromed in 2023 and the interior reupholstered at some point as well. Its matching-numbers four-cam engine was overhauled and balanced between 2023 and 2025 by Jim Ansite in Paso Robles, California, with work including a valve job, cylinder head reconditioning, Carrillo connecting rods, distributor overhauls, and replacement of the V-drive assembly and distributor cap. Ancillary components such as the engine tin, fan housing, air cleaners, and exhaust system were also refinished, resulting in a well-sorted example of Porsche’s most advanced 356.
Over the past twelve months we’ve seen two 356C Carrera 2s cross the block. The first, a Light Ivory over Green example that brought $465,000 back in February of last year and the second, our Spotlight Car, which brought $511,000* at Gooding’s Amelia Island sale in March. And this time, well, she sold just shy of that Amelia number hammering at a final bid of $500,000.
