1964 356C Carrera 2 Coupe
A beautiful Fuhrmann 4-Cam brings the bids

Designed by Ernst Fuhrmann, the Carrera engine was a groundbreaking four-cam flat-four first introduced in the Pre-A 356 and 550 Spyder. It marked Porsche’s transition from modified Volkswagen-based powerplants to a true racing-bred engine architecture. Over time, the complex Type 547 and later evolutions produced between 110 and well over 130 horsepower, becoming known for their high-revving nature, distinctive mechanical sound, and dominant performance in competition.
This 1964 356C Carrera 2 Coupe came finished in Slate Gray over a Black interior and is one of approximately 101 Carrera 2 “GS” C coupes produced. It was repainted in its original factory color some time ago and continues to present very well, with the Black leatherette interior reupholstered at some point too. Powered by its numbers-matching Type 587/1 four-cam flat-four, the car is accompanied by Blackstone Laboratories oil analysis reports from 2019 and 2024, along with mileage logs and service records dating back to 2013. An excellent example that has spent time in a number of collections, including that of Bobby Rahal’s, over the years.
Over the past twelve months, we’ve seen two other 356C Carrera 2 Coupes, with one example crossing the block twice, first bringing $511,000 at Gooding’s Amelia Island sale followed by $500,000 online last month. Prior to that, another example sold for $465,000 back in February of last year. Our Spotlight Car, with its exquisite presentation and well-serviced, numbers-matching engine, topped them all, hammering at a final bid of $549,469.
