1965 911

An above average result for an above average o-g 911

Introduced at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show as the successor to the 356, the original Porsche 911 was larger, more powerful, and more refined while remaining a formidable track performer. Designed by Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, it featured a 2.0-liter air-cooled flat-six producing 130 hp, paired with a new Type 901 five-speed gearbox. With its distinctive shape, rear-mounted engine, and blend of comfort and performance, the first 911 set the template for one of the most iconic sports cars in history.

This 1965 911, showing 36k km (~22k mi), underwent a comprehensive refurbishment in 2023 that included a repaint in its original shade of Irish Green, body repairs, and rebuilds of its replacement 2.0-liter flat-six and Type 901 five-speed manual transaxle. The car looks to have been very well done, with plenty of detailed photos in the gallery including pictures from the refurbishment along with a pile of records.

Over the past twelve months, original 2.0 911s have averaged $150,200 with a low of $87,689 and a high of $207,200 for a special-ordered Champagne Yellow example sold at Gooding’s Monterey sale last year. While our Spotlight car was not powered by its original engine, it was certainly above average in condition and presentation, reflected in its above average sale price of $185,000.
