1969 912 Coupe 5-Speed

53 years of ownership and the perfect color presented a recipe for a new high. But did it hit?

With the launch of the new 911 and the discontinuation of the 356 in the early 1960s, Porsche grew concerned that the significant price increase of the 911 over the 356 would hurt sales and limit the brand’s appeal. To address this, Porsche took the chassis and bodyshell of the 911 and paired it with a four-cylinder engine derived from the outgoing 356SC—creating the 912.

This 1969 912 Coupe 5-Speed was originally finished in Bahama Yellow over a Beige leatherette interior and has remained in the same family for the past 53 years. After an engine fire in 2023, the car was repainted in its factory color and received a full rebuild of the engine, carburetors, and various other components. A very nice example, it was offered with a binder full of history, a tool kit, repair manuals, awards, and additional literature—a complete package.

Over the past twelve months, LWB 912 Coupes have averaged $54,600, with a high of $93,000 for a very nice Burgundy Red example that also came from over 50 years of ownership. With 912s on the rise lately—and a standout color like Bahama Yellow—I was certain we’d see a new record. But our Spotlight car fell just short, selling at a final bid of $88,000. Close, but no cigar.
