1971 911T Targa
Color and condition drove this entry-911 to a new twelve-month high

The 1970–1971 911T served as the entry point into the 911 lineup, positioned below the more performance-oriented 911E and 911S. These long-wheelbase cars were powered by a unique 2.2-liter flat-six (Type 911/03) that produced 125 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 131 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm. The displacement increase from previous models came from a bump in bore size—now 84mm—while retaining the 66mm stroke. The engine featured twin Zenith 40 TIN carburetors, a modest 8.6:1 compression ratio, and other refinements such as larger valves and improved cylinder cooling. Though not the most powerful of the range, the 911T remains a charming and approachable way into vintage 911 ownership.
This 1971 911T Targa came finished in its factory color of Irish Green over Black leatherette and showed 68,000 miles. The car had been repainted under prior ownership and presented fairly well overall, with detailed gallery shots, though service documentation was lacking. An oil change was performed earlier this year, but the seller did note an active oil leak.
Over the past twelve months, 1970–1971 911T Targas have averaged $51,800, with a low of $26,500 and a high of $80,000. But our Spotlight car punched well above its weight, despite lacking engine and gearbox numbers or detailed service documentation. It sold at a final bid of $92,000, setting a new twelve-month high. Luck of the Irish.
