1974 911 Targa 5-Speed

Only the third car to cross the block in a year, but the best color combo

The 1974 model year marked the beginning of the so-called G-Body era, a generation of 911 that would remain in production through 1989. Most notably, it introduced the now-iconic impact bumpers with integrated bellows, added to meet new U.S. safety regulations and replacing the slimmer chrome bumpers of the long-hood cars. Though controversial at first, the G-Body cars would go on to become some of the most beloved and longest-running 911s Porsche ever built.

This 1974 911 Targa 5-Speed came finished in Gemini Blue Metallic over Blue leatherette and cloth and showed 34,000 miles (TMU). Optioned with a front oil cooler and lightly modified with a Dansk muffler and Sony stereo, it presented as a nice, honest example with the typical wear you’d expect. The gallery featured hundreds of detailed photos including paint meter readings and service records.

Over the past twelve months, we’ve only seen two 1974–1977 911 Targas cross the block, a project car that brought $35,250 and a 67,000-mile Light Yellow example that sold for $80,000 back in July. While I personally preferred the Blue-on-Blue spec of our Spotlight Car, it lacked the extensive history of that $80,000 car. It sold at a final bid of $65,000.
