1974 914 2.0
While 6-cylinder 2.0s have missed, this four-cylinder 2.0 hit

The Porsche 914/4 2.0, introduced in 1973, marked a turning point for Porsche’s mid-engine sports car, replacing the low-powered 1.7-liter four and expensive six-cylinder variant with a more balanced and accessible option. Powered by a fuel-injected, air-cooled 2.0-liter VW Type 4 engine, the 914/4 2.0 delivered ~100 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque—matching the six-cylinder’s torque output but delivering it earlier, at 3500 rpm. It was also lighter than the six, improving overall balance and handling. The 914/4 2.0 wasn’t the fastest Porsche, but it struck the right chord between performance, cost, and character.
This 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 came finished in Bahia Red over a Black vinyl interior and showed 30,000 miles on the odometer. The car has been lightly modified with chrome nerf bars front and back and a gauge pod on the center console with an analog clock and monitors for temp and voltage. Overall, the car looked to be in nice condition with paint meter readings showing some paintwork on the front fender, and a recent service receipt for $2,675 in preparation for the sale.
After softening a bit in 2024, four-cylinder 914s have seen a bit of a jump in price over the last few months with averages sitting just over the $25,000 mark and a number of cars in the $35-45,000 range. This one finished right in there, hammering at a final bid of $38,000. A solid price for a solid example in mostly original condition.
