1974 914 LE 2.0

After a slew of 914 LE no-sales, it seems they've found their footing

In 1974 Porsche marked its Can-Am dominance with a special run of 1,000 cars known as the 914 Limited Edition. Each was based on the 2.0-liter model, fitted with unique trim, spoilers, anti-roll bars, alloy wheels, and a bold stripe spelling out “Porsche” along the rockers. Two striking paint combinations were offered: 500 finished in black with Sunflower Yellow accents, dubbed “Bumblebee,” and 500 in Light Ivory with Phoenix Red accents, earning the nickname “Creamsicle.” Sold only in North America, the LE brought racing flair to the entry-level Porsche, and today it remains one of the most recognizable and collectible 914 variants.

This 1974 914 Limited Edition “Bumblebee” is finished in Black with Sunflower Yellow accents over Black vinyl and shows 65k miles. A replacement 2.0L flat-four with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection powers the car, with recent work including valve adjustments, ignition and fuel system refresh, and rerouted vacuum lines. Cosmetic updates under prior ownership included refinished bumpers, valances, and side skirts, while more recent maintenance since 2024 has addressed lighting connections, Targa and window seals, brake fluid flush, new hand brake cables, and sway bar bushings. With plenty of fresh service and the iconic LE look, this is a very nice example of one of my favorite 914s.

Over the past twelve months, 914 Limited Editions have averaged $33,875, with a low sale of $28,750 and a high of $39,000. Supply has been thin, with only six cars offered and just two finding buyers, representing both the low and the high. Our Spotlight car showed better overall condition than the low example, while the high sale had slightly lower mileage. With that context, the $31,000 final bid looks like a fair result for both sides, landing squarely in the recent range.
