1977 911 Targa
A Dutch Police tribute heads towards the top of G-body Targa pricing

From 1962 to 1996, the Dutch National Police operated Porsche patrol cars when Dutch motorways had no speed limits and demanded fast, agile machines capable of catching speeding sports cars and managing serious accidents. An unusual requirement that officers be able to stand and direct traffic from the car led to early use of the open-top Porsche 356 Cabriolet, before the Porsche 911 Targa became the staple from 1967 through 1996. Over three decades the fleet also included the 914, 924, and later the 964, all finished in the now-iconic White and Orange livery and outfitted with sirens, “Rijkspolitie” branding, water-repellent interiors, and special mirrors. The program ultimately concluded in the mid-1990s as rising costs and evolving policing needs rendered the specialized sports cars impractical, closing a uniquely Dutch chapter in Porsche history.
This 1977 911 Targa pays tribute to the legendary Rijkspolitie cars, modified in full Dutch police livery and reportedly displayed in a Netherlands museum before being acquired in 2024 and imported to the U.S. in March 2025. Refinished in White with Orange graphics over a Black leather interior, it shows just 31,000 kilometers (~19k miles) and has been outfitted with Bosch front horns, a blue beacon light, PA system, rear message display, and CB radio, capturing the look and spirit of the historic cars. A comprehensive gallery documents the car before and during its transformation, making this a very cool and well-executed homage to one of Porsche’s most distinctive chapters.
Over the last twelve months, standard earl G-Body 911 Targas have averaged $56,438 with a low of $35,250 and a high of $80,000 for a Light Yellow example with lots of work completed in 2025. Our Spotlight Car, with its quirky police car features, sold near the top of the range, hammering at a final bid of $76,000. 100% worth the price of admission to play Dutch police officer.
