1977 911S Targa
Minerva Blue puts this early G-Body at the top

1974 marked a turning point for the Porsche 911, ushering in the G-body era with a major facelift driven by global safety regulations. The smooth front and rear ends were replaced by impact bumpers—an iconic feature that would define the model for years. At launch, the G-series came with three engine options, and the 911S sat in the middle of the range, powered by a 173-hp 2.7-liter flat-six—just like the one in today’s Spotlight car.
This 1977 911S Targa came finished in its striking original color combination of Minerva Blue Metallic over a Black interior, complemented by Black-centered Fuchs wheels, a Black Targa bar, and matching Targa script along the sides. While the odometer showed 208,000 miles, the car benefited from a repaint in 2018 and an interior retrim. The 2.7-liter engine and 5-speed transaxle were rebuilt just 4,000 miles ago, and the sale included a detailed breakdown of parts and maintenance costs spanning from 2014 to 2023.
Over the past twelve months, early G-series 911S Targas have averaged $49,800, with prices ranging from a low of $28,250 to a high of $85,123 for a Silver example sold last November. Frankly, our Spotlight car felt like a clear contender to set a new high—it wore a highly desirable color, had been well cared for, and benefitted from recent refurbishment. And it delivered, selling for a final bid of $89,930. Well done.
