1977 911S Targa 5-Speed
A mid-range 911 with some work to be done was bid accordingly

Offered as the mid-tier model between the base 911 and the more performance-focused Carreras, the 1974–1977 Porsche 911S carried over the 2.7-liter flat-six throughout its production run, consistently rated at 175 horsepower. Unlike the standard 911, the S was upgraded with thicker anti-roll bars and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes for better handling and stopping power. It came standard with 5.5 x 15-inch steel wheels and chromed hubcaps, though many buyers opted for the 6 x 15-inch ATS “Cookie Cutter” alloys. While power didn’t change during its run, the S maintained its reputation as a well-balanced driver’s car within the impact-bumper era lineup.
This 1977 Porsche 911S Targa 5-Speed was originally finished in Silver Metallic and was repainted White in 2006. It features steel Turbo-style flares, 16″ BBS wheels, and a “whale-tail” rear spoiler for a more aggressive look. The interior was refreshed in Black leather, though imperfections remain, including a cracked dash and limited climate control functionality. While the five-digit odometer shows 75k miles, the engine was rebuilt nearly two decades ago with 930-style seals, hydraulic chain tensioners, and a replacement exhaust. However, the engine currently smokes on startup and leaks oil from the main drive seal, and the suspension bushings are reportedly squeaky.
With a twelve-month average of $56,000 and comps ranging from $40,000 to $55,000 for a gorgeous Minerva Blue Metallic example, this 1977 911S Targa landed near the lower end of the spectrum with a final bid of $43,000. That result was to be expected given the mechanical and cosmetic needs. Get those sorted, and you have a looker with the wide fenders and whale tail.
