1978 911SC Coupe

Originality and single-family-ownership pushed this first-year SC above comps

Introduced in 1978, the Porsche 911SC (“Super Carrera”) was meant to be the swan song for the 911 line as Porsche planned to replace it with the new 928. Instead, the SC helped secure the 911’s future by broadening its appeal through improved reliability, everyday usability, and classic Porsche performance. Powered by a naturally aspirated version of the 930 Turbo’s engine, the 911SC offered a more approachable alternative to the 911 Turbo while retaining the signature character and handling of the 911. Sold globally, it became one of Porsche’s first truly international models, keeping the 911 spirit alive during a pivotal moment in the brand’s history.

This 1978 911SC Coupe was purchased new by the seller’s father and came finished in Paint-to-Sample Anthracite Metallic over a Black leather interior. Optioned with Sport Seats and a Limited-Slip Differential, this SC now shows 58,590 miles on the odometer and is in very nice, original condition with a gallery full of paint meter readings, detailed photos, and service records.

Over the last twelve months, 911SC Coupes have averaged $60,700, with a low of $19,251 and a high of $140,911 for a 25,000-mile Ivory over Brown example. Mileage comps put our Spotlight car in the $70,000–$90,000 range, but we all knew single-family ownership and originality would push this one past those. It sold at a final bid of $103,500—a great result for the selling family, and a great example for the new owner.
