1985 911 Carrera Cabriolet M491 Special Wishes Slant Nose

You win some, you win some.

The M491 option, known as the "Works Turbo Look" (WTL), was offered on the 1984-1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2, giving non-turbo models the aggressive styling and performance enhancements of the 930 Turbo. This package included the wide fenders, signature whale-tail spoiler, upgraded suspension, larger wheels, and the highly regarded Turbo brakes. But if you wanted the slant nose look for your non-turbo car, you had to have it sent to Porsche’s Sonderwunsch after production to receive the conversion, just like the original owner of this 1985 911 Carrera Cabriolet did.

Finished in Guards Red over a Can-Can Red leather interior, this Cab. was optioned with Porsche’s M491 package and then sent to Sonderwunsch for the slant nose treatment. What’s interesting, is that because the two companies were separate at the time, the original CoA does not include the slant nose, but the Porsche Production Specifications sheet does. The car appears to be in very nice condition and shows 12,152 miles on the odometer, but with this being a German-market example, that means that the odometer was changed out at some point in its life, probably when it was imported into the US in 1986. Either way, a very rare example of an already rare car.

Over the last twelve months M491-equipped Cabriolets have averaged $85,000 with a high of $116,000 for a 31,000-mile example finished in White Gold Metallic over Cadbury Brown. I fully expected our Spotlight car to eclipse that high, and maybe even give the five-year high of $155,000 a run for its money, as that car too had just 12k on the clock. But it sold at a final bid of $92,491, an absolute steal if you ask me, regardless of the replacement odometer.
