1986.5 928 S 5-Speed
Amazing color and great service history. But could it beat out Canadian citizenship?

While the original 928 debuted at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show, the more potent 928 S followed in 1980 for Europe and arrived in the US for 1983 to address calls for greater performance. Displacement grew from 4.5 to 4.7 liters, producing up to 300 horsepower in Euro-spec, while US cars were initially rated lower due to emissions constraints. The S also introduced polyurethane front and rear spoilers for added high-speed stability, larger 16-inch wheels, upgraded ventilated brakes, and suspension tuning to match the increased output, sharpening the grand tourer’s performance credentials.
This 1986.5 928 S 5-Speed was finished in Paint-to-Sample White Gold Metallic over a Burgundy leather interior and showed 158,474 km (~98k miles). A Canadian-market car, it was optioned with Sport Seats and a sunroof and has benefited from extensive service over the past five years, including installation of a new clutch kit and timing belt.
Over the past twelve months, 928 S values have averaged $23,100, with a low of $7,600 and a high of $47,500 set by a 35,000-mile example sold last March. Our Spotlight car presented as a strong example in a standout color combination with solid service history, though its Canadian location likely limited the bidding pool somewhat. Even so, it sold at a solid final bid of $29,428.
