1987 911 Carrera Cabriolet 5-Speed M491
A new record for a Turbo-Look 3.2

Porsche introduced the M491 “Turbo-Look” package for the 911 Carrera 3.2 in 1984, offering buyers the visual drama and performance components of the 930 Turbo without the actual turbocharger. Known internally as the “Werks Turbo Look” (WTL), and officially as the Supersport in the UK, the option included flared fenders, the signature “tea tray” rear wing, and the 930’s upgraded suspension, brakes, and wider wheels. This was especially appealing in the U.S. where the 911 Turbo wasn’t offered due to emissions regulations. Initially available only on the coupe, the M491 became available across the full 911 range—Coupe, Cabriolet, and Targa—by 1985.
This 1987 911 Carrera Cabriolet 5-Speed was optioned with the desirable M491 “Turbo Look” package and finished in Guards Red over Beige leather. The car was lightly modified with an aftermarket stereo and shift knob, with the original components included in the sale. The CarFax report lists a mileage inconsistency in September 1997 and shows Not Actual Miles-branded titles beginning in August 2001, which the seller attributes to a clerical error, noting that an unbranded title was issued in September 2020. Under current ownership, the valves were adjusted and the drive belts, air filter, and spark plugs were replaced, though minor oil leaks were noted around the valve covers and oil tank reservoir. Compression and leakdown test results were provided in the gallery, for a very honest presentation of a highly desirable Carrera 3.2.
Over the past twelve months, 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet values have averaged $56,900, with a low of $32,000 and a high of $92,491 for a 12,000-mile example equipped with both the M491 package and a Special Wishes Slant Nose conversion. Our Spotlight Car surpassed that mark, selling at a final bid of $96,500 and setting a new twelve-month high for an online sale. Well sold.
