1987 911 Carrera Coupe 5-Speed Safari

A very Transsyberia Safari build

We’ve seen this 1987 911 Carrera Coupe 5-Speed before, but it looked nothing like the car above. It last sold online in December of 2020 for $59,500 and was later acquired by the seller, who sent to work creating this very cool Safari build. Work included a glass-out repaint in Black along with modifying the front bumper and adding a winch, front skid plate, fog lights and light pod, and painting the mirror caps and wheels Orange. On the inside, Sport Seats were added and trimmed in Black leather with Orange inserts along with a MOMO steering wheel and Orange-finished tach.

Suspension-wise, it has been modified with dampers from Motion Control Suspension as well as 22mm and 29mm torsion bars, and Elephant Racing bushings while the 16” Fuchs-style wheels were fitted with BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires. Out back, the 3.2-liter pretty much remained stock but the G50 trans was fitted with revised gearing and a limited-slip differential. All the makings of a great Safari build.

I love Safaris, and we’ve seen plenty of them over the years, but I really loved this one as it had a Transsyberia look to it with the Black and Orange theme. Carrera 3.2 Safari’s typically sell in the $100k+ neighborhood, with the amount of work to the engine usually being what defines the price. While the seller was looking for $140k, it sold at a final bid of $116,000. Right on the money.
