1987 924 S

While this 924 S wasn't in contention for a new high, I didn't think it would almost be a new low either

The 924S, introduced in 1986, brought the narrow-bodied 924 back to life with meaningful performance upgrades. After Volkswagen ceased production of the 924’s original 2.0-liter block, Porsche fitted it with a slightly detuned version of the 944’s 2.5-liter inline-four, producing 150 hp. Suspension improvements, 5-lug wheels, and 944-style brakes further elevated the driving experience, while the earlier 924 interior was retained to keep costs low. Reintroduced to the U.S. market at under $20,000, the 924S offered an affordable entry point into Porsche ownership with genuine performance credentials.

This 1987 Porsche 924S, finished in black over Gray Beige Porsche-script cloth, shows 26k miles on its five-digit odometer, with about 2,500 added under current ownership. The odometer was repaired in July 2024, and a mileage inconsistency is noted on the Carfax. Imperfections, including pushed-up pinch welds, are documented in the gallery as are service receipts for the timing belt replacement in 2015, and other recent servicing including fluid changes along with replacement of the oil pump and level sender.

Over the last twelve months 924 S have averaged $11,800 with a low of $6,000 and a high of $25,750 for a sub-5,000-mile example. Our Spotlight car was never in contention for a new high, but I didn’t think it would be in contention for a new low. But it came close, selling at a final bid of $6,100. Automatic plus TMU kept this one on the low end.
