1988 924S Special Edition

Lot's of work completed, but more to go, this special 924 was bid with room to spare

Introduced for the final model year of the 924 in 1988, the Porsche 924S Special Edition, known as the Le Mans edition in Europe and SE in North America, added a few key upgrades to distinguish it from standard models. These included firmer suspension, revised anti-roll bars, unique badging, and special interior trim. Just 980 units were built in total, with only 500 designated for the North American market, all finished in either Black or White.

This 1988 924S Special Edition was held by the original owner’s family until 2021, when it was acquired by the seller and treated to a multi-year refurbishment. Mechanical work included updates to the steering, suspension, brakes, fuel, and ignition systems, along with replacement of various engine components. The interior was retrimmed as well, though the Black exterior still showed wear, with paint imperfections, dings, and scratches noted. Some exterior seals were replaced, including those on the hood, door, mirror base, and decklid.

Over the past twelve months, just one other 924S Special Edition crossed the block, a Black example that failed to sell at a high bid of $9,250. The most recent recorded sale came in September 2024, when a clean, 64,000-mile example brought $14,400. Our Spotlight car showed strong mechanical effort, but its cosmetics still needed attention, which likely kept bidding in check. It sold for $5,200, a solid price given the restoration work already completed, and likely worth the investment to bring the exterior up to par.
