1988 944 Turbo S Silver Rose

Did rarity trump mileage for a new 944 Turbo S high?

The 944 Turbo S was originally intended as a 1,000-unit run, finished exclusively in Silver Rose Metallic over a distinctive Burgundy Studio Plaid cloth interior. While Porsche ultimately built around 1,600 Turbo S models, only ~720 (depending on your source) were true “Silver Rose” examples. Under the hood, the uprated M44/52 engine produced 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque thanks to a larger KKK K26-8 turbocharger and revised engine mapping. Standard M030 suspension with progressive-rate springs, adjustable Koni shocks, larger anti-roll bars, and chassis stiffening gave the Silver Rose sharp, track-ready handling to match its unique looks.

This 1988 944 Turbo S Silver Rose, finished in its signature Silver Rose Metallic over Burgundy Studio Plaid cloth, has been with the seller since 1992 and now shows 40k miles, 25k of which were added under current ownership. A nice example with long-term history, it received a timing belt service in April 2015 and more recent maintenance in June 2022, including new spark plugs, fuel filter, distributor cap, and ignition wires, along with a resealed oil filter housing. Overall, it presents as a clean and well-cared-for example of one of Porsche’s most distinctive limited editions.

Since we haven’t seen a Silver Rose sell in quite some time, recent 944 Turbo S results are the closest comps, averaging $36,300 over the past twelve months with a low of $17,750 and a high of $75,500 for a 24,000-mile Guards Red example. While this car didn’t have the low miles, its rarity made “touching” the high a possibility. Instead, it landed just below the low end of mileage comps at a final bid of $45,500.
