1988 944 Turbo S Silver Rose

Big money for a higher mileage car in need of some love

The 944 Turbo S was originally intended as a 1,000-unit run, finished exclusively in Silver Rose Metallic over a distinctive Burgundy Studio Plaid cloth interior. While Porsche ultimately built around 1,600 Turbo S models, only ~720 (depending on your source) were true “Silver Rose” examples. Under the hood, the uprated M44/52 engine produced 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque thanks to a larger KKK K26-8 turbocharger and revised engine mapping. Standard M030 suspension with progressive-rate springs, adjustable Koni shocks, larger anti-roll bars, and chassis stiffening gave the Silver Rose sharp, track-ready handling to match its unique looks.

This 1988 944 Turbo S Silver Rose was finished in its iconic Silver Rose Metallic over a Burgundy Studio Check interior and showed 95,400 miles. It was modified with an Ansa exhaust, K&N air filter, aftermarket strut tower brace, wheel spacers, and a Power Acoustik head unit. Condition-wise, it showed its age with paint blemishes, damage to the passenger-side fender, a cracked windshield, and cracks in the dashboard. When I featured it last week, the seller mentioned recent maintenance but lacked documentation, which was later added to the gallery as the auction progressed.

Over the past twelve months, 944 Turbo S Silver Rose values have averaged $35,300, with a low of $17,750 and a high of $45,500 for a 40,000-mile example sold last August. Our Spotlight Car needed a bit of a refresh and had some miles on it. With that, I had it at $25,000, tops. But bidders had other ideas, as it ultimately sold at a final bid of $31,250.
