1989 911 Carrera Coupe

Despite the bump in the market, this final-year 911 Carrera didn't follow suit

Replacing the 911SC in 1984, the 911 Carrera 3.2 would become the last of the “Classic” 911s before the transition to the more modern 964. It featured a higher-displacement engine that used the bore of the outgoing SC, paired with the stroke from the 1978 Turbo 3.3’s crankshaft. Higher-domed pistons increased the compression ratio, particularly in Rest of World cars compared to U.S. models. Another significant update came in 1987, when the new G50 Getrag transmission replaced the earlier cars’ 915 gearbox.

This 1989 911 Carrera Coupe is a final-year model that featured year-specific upgrades, including larger Fuchs wheels and thicker anti-roll bars. Finished in Guards Red over a Black leather interior, it showed 125,000 miles on the odometer. From the factory, it was nicely optioned with a locking differential, shorter shifter lever, and front and rear spoilers. It also featured an aftermarket exhaust system, a MOMO steering wheel, and an Alpine CD player. The car appeared to be in solid condition in the photos, with a record of decent servicing since it was last acquired at auction in July 2022.

Over the past twelve months, Carrera 3.2 Coupes have averaged $82,400, with a low of $38,869 and a high of $225,200 for a 13,000-mile Paint-to-Sample Glacier Blue example. As mentioned, this car was purchased at auction in July 2022 for a final bid of $53,000. Prices have steadily risen since then, so an estimate of $60,000–$80,000 was reasonable. However, our Spotlight car sold at a final bid of $59,000, falling just short of its low estimate. Definitely a bit of a deal for the winning bidder.
