1990 944 S2 Cabriolet 5-Speed

A bit of a dip despite a steady market for the first of the 944 Cabriolets

The Porsche 944 S2 debuted for the 1989 model year as the next evolution of Porsche’s front-engined sports car. Its most significant upgrade was the 3.0-liter DOHC 16-valve inline-four, the largest four-cylinder engine of its time in a production car, producing 208 horsepower. The transmission and gearing were revised to complement the added power, improving performance and drivability. Visually, the S2 adopted the smoother front bumper and rear underspoiler that had previously been exclusive to the 944 Turbo, while also introducing a new alloy wheel design. The lineup expanded to include the first-ever 944 Cabriolet, giving enthusiasts both coupe and open-air options.

This 1990 944 S2 Cabriolet 5-speed was retained by its original owner until 2024 and now shows just 53k miles. This example comes finished in Black with a matching convertible soft top and boot over a Beige partial leather interior. The car has been well-kept with the timing belt and water pump replaced in 2016, and is offered with a comprehensive set of original items including the owner’s manual, stamped maintenance booklet, manufacturer literature, factory car cover, air compressor, trickle charger, and tool kit. Overall, a well-kept example that stayed with its original owner most of its life.

The last time we saw this 944 S2 Cabriolet was back in June 2024, when it sold for a final bid of $23,150. A little over a year and 1,000 miles later, the market has held fairly steady, with average prices over the past twelve months at $18,600, ranging from a low of $7,395 to a high of $34,720. This Spotlight car sold just shy of its previous result, but still within comps, at a final bid of $21,500.
