1990 944 S2 Cabriolet 5-Speed
A peak 944, and the first Cabriolet, hits the mark

The 944 S2, produced from 1989 to 1991, represents the most refined naturally aspirated evolution of the 944 lineup. It was powered by a 3.0-liter 16-valve inline-four producing 208 horsepower, making it the largest four-cylinder engine in a production car at the time. The S2 combined the wide-body styling and chassis of the 944 Turbo with a more linear, torque-rich power delivery, creating a balanced and highly usable driver’s car. It also introduced the first 944 Cabriolet, further expanding the model’s appeal.
This 1990 944 S2 Cabriolet 5-Speed was finished in Black with a Black soft top over a Beige leather interior and showed 111,000 miles. It received over $7,000 in service in May 2025, including a front engine reseal along with a new timing belt, water pump, valve cover gasket, camshaft position sensor, spark plug seals, and various fuel system components. Overall, a solid example with the seller noting a few blemishes but nothing more than you’d expect for the miles.
Over the past twelve months, 944 S2 Cabriolet values have averaged $19,800, with a low of $11,000 and a high of $30,500 for a 16,000-mile example sold last July. Mileage comps placed our Spotlight Car in the $9,600–$17,600 range, which is exactly where it landed, hammering at $13,750.
