1992 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet 6-Speed

Paint-to-Sample and a boatload of service records didn't seem to help this 964

The 964 Carrera 2 arrived for the 1990 model year as the rear-wheel-drive counterpart to the earlier Carrera 4, bringing the 911 back to its more traditional layout. Roughly 220 pounds lighter than the C4, the C2 offered a more lively, engaging driving experience while still benefiting from the 964’s modern updates. Power came from a 3.6-liter M64 flat-six producing 250 horsepower, and the chassis introduced coil-spring suspension in place of torsion bars, along with standard ABS and power steering. The result was a well-balanced blend of classic 911 character and modern usability.

This 1992 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet 5-Speed came finished in Paint-to-Sample White Gold Metallic with a Black soft top over a Black leather interior and showed 74,000 miles. Optioned with heated power Sport Seats and a limited-slip differential, it last sold in June 2024 for $73,000. Since then, it has seen significant mechanical work including a top-end rebuild, new clutch, ignition components, Elephant Racing suspension bushings, replacement soft brake hoses, and a new power steering feed line and belt.

Over the past twelve months, 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet values have averaged $65,000, with a low of $42,000 and a high of $80,000 for both an 18,000-mile example sold last July and a 34,000-mile car sold in October. Given the market, the amount of recent service, and the Paint-to-Sample spec, I expected this one to not only beat its prior result but approach the high. Instead, it just edged past its previous sale, selling at a final bid of $73,500.
