1993 911 Carrera 2 WTL Cabriolet 5-Speed

This rare Works Turbo Look brought the bids, but did it get the job done?

The 964 Carrera 2 ‘Works Turbo Look’ Cabriolet was a rare and desirable offering in the early 1990s that combined the naturally aspirated Carrera 2 drivetrain with the wide Turbo bodywork, sans rear wing, for a clean yet aggressive look. Dubbed the America Roadster in the US, it was more than just aesthetic, the WTL also came with the suspension and brakes from the 964 Turbo 3.3, delivering a noticeably upgraded driving experience. Porsche offered the model in standard colors, but a handful were optioned in standout metallics like Raspberry Red, Wimbledon Green, and Lavender Blue. Just 1,532 were produced worldwide.

This 1993 911 Carrera 2 Works Turbo Look Cabriolet 5-Speed was one such example finished in Wimbledon Green and came with a matching Leather-to-Sample Wimbledon Green interior. It showed just 18,000 km (~11k mi) on the odometer and looked to be in excellent condition as evidenced by hundreds of photos in the gallery including service history and paint meter readings. A beautiful example of a rare and desirable 964.

Over the past twelve months we’ve seen five America Roadsters cross the block and a handful of WTL cars with a low of $42,000 and a high of $153,000 for a 16,000-mile example finished in Black over Cashmere. With even lower miles, and a striking color combination, I expected this one to at least cross $200k, maybe even edge upwards to $300k. It at least crossed the $200k mark, with a final bid of $216,000, but it looks like the seller was thinking closer to $300k. I’m sure we’ll see this one again.
