A Turbo S in all but name sets a new high

Japanese-market WLS 1 993 Turbos occupy an interesting niche as effectively “Turbo S in all but name.” With the official Turbo S not offered in Japan, well-connected buyers could spec their cars through Porsche Exclusive using the WLS (Werkleistungssteigerung) program. These cars featured the X50 Power Kit with revised KKK turbochargers, larger intercoolers, and updated engine management, along with Turbo S details like the X79 side air intakes and other high-end options. The result was a handful of uniquely configured cars that delivered Turbo S performance and presence without the badge, making them especially intriguing to collectors today.
This 1996 911 Turbo was one such Japanese-market WLS 1 example. Finished in Paint-to-Sample Wimbledon Green over a Classic Grey leather interior, this 993 Turbo showed 97,625 km (~61k miles) and looked to be in excellent condition as evidenced by the photos in the gallery.
Over the past twelve months, 993 Turbo values have averaged $289,200, with a low of $151,000 and a high of $401,000 for a 2,400-mile Polar Silver Metallic example sold last month. This is just the second Japanese-market WLS 1 we’ve seen, following a 50,000-mile car that brought $350,000 in November. Our Spotlight Car didn’t just beat that comp, it cleared the entire market, setting a new twelve-month high at $560,000.

TOGETHER WITH PORSCHE SALT LAKE CITY
There are Porsche Centers, and then there are PORSCHE CENTERS. The newly opened Porsche Salt Lake City is firmly the latter. Established in 1958, Porsche Salt Lake City is one of the oldest Porsche centers in the United States, now paired with one of the most advanced facilities in the network.
The new space spans over 100,000 square feet, with every detail considered. A 30-bay service center anchors the facility, featuring extra-wide bays, in-ground lifts, and custom Italian DEA toolboxes, a first for a Porsche Center. Throughout the building, Apple-powered workstations with dual Mac Studio monitors allow seamless plug-and-play capability for Brand Ambassadors. Below, a massive parking structure houses up to 100 vehicles and features a custom, non-traditional photo booth that reflects the scale and intent behind the entire operation.
A huge congratulations to Gavin and his team on what is quickly becoming a true destination for those passionate about the brand. If you find yourself near Salt Lake City, it’s well worth the visit.
