1997 911 Carrera S Vesuvio Edition 6-Speed

Miles, condition, and color couldn't carry this special 993

To commemorate Porsche’s 50th anniversary as an automaker, a limited run of just 60 specially equipped 993 Carrera S models were built under the “Vesuvio Edition” banner. Each car was finished in Vesuvio Metallic and featured the wide Turbo-style bodywork paired with the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six. Unique Steel Grey accents set this edition apart, covering the wheel centers, mirrors, rear grille, door handles, gear knob, handbrake, and instrument rings—giving the car a cohesive, exclusive look that was never officially offered outside this series. Quietly one of the rarest and most visually striking variants of the 993 lineup.

This 1997 911 Carrera S Vesuvio Edition 6-Speed is one of those 60 built and shows only 21k kilometers (~13k miles) from new. Originally delivered to Japan, it was exported to Germany in 2014, then spent time in the UK before returning to Germany, where it’s now offered. Finished in its namesake Vesuvio Metallic over a Black partial leather interior, this example is equipped with the optional M033 Sport Suspension and has been lightly modified with a 996 steering wheel, Porsche Classic head unit, and 18” Turbo Twist wheels, though the originals are included. The gallery is extensive, with detailed paint meter readings and Japanese service records, so you better brush up.

Over the last twelve months, just three Vesuvio Editions have crossed the online auction block in the U.S., with results ranging from $165,000 for a 95k-mile example to $243,000 for one with 62k miles. This particular car, with only 13k miles on the clock, had the mileage edge by a wide margin, but being located in Europe likely limited bidder reach. Still, I expected it to break $250,000, or maybe even flirt with $300,000, but it ultimately stalled at $197,565, a result that felt light even by European standards.
