1997 911 Turbo S

This Turbo S sale was all fireworks

Introduced in 1997, the 993 Turbo S represented the ultimate evolution of the air-cooled 911 Turbo and the final chapter of Porsche’s analog forced-induction flagship. Built in limited numbers through the Porsche Exclusive Department, the Turbo S came standard with the Aerokit II along with unique side air ducts, front intakes, Yellow brake calipers instead of “Big Reds”, and a host of Turbo options. Power was increased via larger K-24 turbochargers and revised Motronic engine management resulting in 424 hp for US cars and 450 hp elsewhere, good for 0–60 mph in 3.7 seconds and a 184 mph top speed. Just 345 examples were built worldwide, with 176 delivered to the US, cementing the 993 Turbo S as one of the most desirable modern air-cooled Porsches.

This 1997 911 Turbo S came finished in Ocean Blue Metallic over a Cashmere Beige Supple Leather interior and showed just 4,200 miles on the odometer. It came optioned with power heated front seats, a Carbon-Fiber steering wheel, and Nokia DPS audio system. History was a bit sparse, with the only service records found on the CarFax. But let’s be honest, whomever is buying this one isn’t planning on driving it.

Over the last twelve months we hadn’t seen a single 993 Turbo S cross the block online, but a few did sell during Monterey Car Week at RM and Broad Arrow. One was a 6,000-mile example that brought $758,500 all-in, while another with just 4,000 miles in Yellow sold for $786,000. Given those comps, a $750–800,000 estimate felt reasonable, but our Spotlight Car blew past that logic, selling for a very impressive $950,000.
