1998 911 Carrera S Cabriolet 6-Speed
This rare factory one-off brought the bids, but it wasn't enough

Most enthusiasts are familiar with the handful of 993-generation Carrera 2 Cabriolets converted to widebody Carrera S specification by Beverly Hills Porsche with endorsement and support from Porsche Cars North America. Far less known is the sole factory-built example completed directly by the Porsche Exclusive Department in Germany for the European market. That car received the full Carrera S treatment, including the widebody rear quarters, split rear grille, and the revised bumper covers and side skirts found on the Carrera S Coupe, making it a true one-off within the 993 lineup.
This 1998 911 Carrera S Cabriolet 6-Speed was finished in Guards Red over a Black Nappa Full Leather interior with Flamenco Red carpets and body-color hard seatbacks and showed just 17,000 km (~10k miles). Between 2021 and 2022, the car was serviced at the Porsche Classic Factory Restoration facility in Stuttgart, where work reportedly included overhauls of the 3.6-liter flat-six, the six-speed manual transaxle, and the power-operated black soft top.
For a one-of-one, the only comps we have are obviously, this one, and we’ve seen it a few times over the years. It first sold in February of 2018 for €269,375, or roughly $317,862 at the time, and more recently in 2024 for $401,000. This time around, it brought a good clip above that last sale, with a bid of $675,000, but didn’t find a new home. I don’t know, looks like a good return to me.
