2002 911 Carrera Cabriolet 6-Speed

Low miles and solid service, but still a deal

The 996.2 generation 911 debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2001 for the 2002 model year and represented a significant mid-cycle update, with roughly 40% of the car revised from the earlier 996.1. Most visibly, it adopted new “Turbo-look” headlights and a redesigned front bumper, addressing one of the most common criticisms of the original car. Under the decklid, the 3.4-liter engine was replaced by a 3.6-liter M96/03 flat-six producing 320 horsepower, along with a revised IMS bearing, improved oil scavenging, and updated cylinder heads, making the 996.2 both more powerful and generally more robust than its predecessor.

This 2002 911 Carrera Cabriolet 6-Speed came finished in Lapis Blue Metallic over a Graphite Gray leather interior and showed just 24,000 miles. It was optioned with 18-inch Carrera II wheels, Sport Seats, BOSE sound, and a body-color center console. The car was supported by a clean CarFax and decent service history, including a $3,700 service invoice from Porsche Marin dated October 2022 and an oil change in December of 2025.

Over the past twelve months, 996.2 Carrera Cabriolet values have averaged $27,100, with a low of $10,060 and a high of $49,246 set by an 8,000-mile example sold last May. Our Spotlight car was a well-maintained, lower-mile example, though it did need new tires based on date codes and IMS replacement is debatable. I had this one in the $30,000–40,000 range, but it ultimately sold at a final bid of $29,250.
