2004 911 GT3 RS

A new benchmark for the 996

The 996.2 GT3 RS was introduced for the 2003 model year as a lightweight, homologation-focused evolution of the GT3, bringing Porsche’s motorsport technology directly to the road. Power came from a 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six producing 380 horsepower and revving to 8,200 rpm. Weight reduction measures included a carbon-fiber hood and rear wing, a polycarbonate rear window, and the deletion of certain interior items, making it lighter than the standard GT3. The chassis featured stiffer suspension components and reinforced mounting points designed for track use, delivering an unfiltered, highly communicative driving experience. Produced in limited numbers, just 682 examples were built and none were officially sold in the United States.

This 2004 911 GT3 RS came finished in Carrara White with Red graphics over a Black interior and showed just 3,900 km (~2,400 miles). Originally not offered in the United States, the car was imported under the “show or display” exemption in 2021. Recent service included a brake fluid change and a 40k-mile service carried out in August 2024 by Porsche Salt Lake City, which included an oil change along with replacement of the serpentine belt and spark plugs.

Over the past twelve months, only three examples of Porsche’s 996 RS have crossed the block in the U.S., with a 10,000-mile car selling for $290,000 back in December. Looking a little further back, a 30,000-mile example brought $185,000 in early March of last year, all in the White/Red livery. With super-low miles and excellent condition, our Spotlight Car set a new benchmark, selling at a final bid of $500,000.
