2011 911 GT2 RS
The new million-dollar 997

The 997.2 GT2 RS debuted as the ultimate expression of the 997 generation. Limited to just 500 examples worldwide, it paired a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six producing 620 hp with rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission. Extensive use of carbon fiber, lightweight components, and GT3 RS-derived chassis hardware helped keep weight in check, resulting in one of the most visceral and demanding modern 911s ever built. As the most powerful road-going Porsche of its era and the final GT2 RS to feature both a manual transmission and Mezger engine, it has become one of the most coveted water-cooled 911s.
This 2011 911 GT2 RS, number 438 of the 500 examples produced, came finished in GT Silver Metallic over a Black and Red leather and Alcantara interior and showed just 4,000 miles. It was optioned with Adaptive Sport Seats, Sound Package Plus, Sport Chrono Package Plus, and more, giving it a nice balance of performance and comfort. While it exhibited the expected minor wear associated with age and mileage, it appeared to have been well cared for, with recent service including a brake fluid flush and oil change in July 2024 along with a coolant flush performed in April 2021.
Over the past twelve months, only one other 997.2 GT2 RS has crossed the block, a Black example with 7,000 miles that failed to sell at a final bid of $750,000 during Mecum’s Monterey sale. Given the rarity of these cars and the strength we’ve seen across the broader 997 GT market over the past year, I thought there was a real chance we’d see the first seven-figure 997.2 GT2 RS. That’s exactly what happened, as our Spotlight Car sold at a final bid of $1,031,000.
