2011 911 GT3 RS 4.0

The GOAT brings GOAT money, and then some

The 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 represents the pinnacle of the 997-generation GT3 lineup (or any GT3 depending on who you ask) and stands as one of the most celebrated naturally aspirated 911s ever produced. Limited to just over 600 units worldwide, it was the final 911 to feature the legendary naturally aspirated version of the Mezger engine—a 4.0-liter flat-six producing 500 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and 340 lb-ft of torque at 5,750 rpm. Shared with the GT3 RSR race car, the crankshaft and titanium connecting rods emphasized its motorsport pedigree. Paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission and weighing just under 3,000 pounds, the RS 4.0 incorporated extensive lightweight materials and aerodynamic features like carbon fiber front “flics” and a revised rear wing, generating 419 pounds of downforce at speed. It marked the end of an era for Porsche’s analog, race-bred driving machines.

This 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is a remarkable example, showing just 319 miles from new. Finished in Carrara White over a Black and Red leather and Alcantara interior, it came equipped with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), the Front Axle Lift System, Dynamic Cornering Lights, Sport Chrono Package Plus, and a lightweight lithium-ion battery. The cabin is further optioned with the Extended Carbon Package, carbon fiber air vents, seatbelt outlets, rear center console, and sun visors. Additional features include clear taillights, GT Silver-painted wheels, and Sound Package Plus. Offered in as-new condition, this RS 4.0 came with its original owner’s manuals, window sticker, and toolkit.

The last time we saw this GT3 RS 4.0 was back in February of 2023 when it failed to sell at a final bid of $785,250. Back then, averages were just shy of $600,000 with a high of $885,000 for an 1,800-mile example finished in not-often-seen Black. Fast-forward to today, and averages have increased a bit, sitting at $683,100, and the twelve-month high a tad less at $811,000 with that $885k car still the five-year high. Until yesterday. Our Spotlight car sold for a staggering $1,001,917 making it the first GT3 RS 4.0 to cross the million-dollar mark at auction. I know of a few other $1m+ cars that traded hands privately, but all of those cars were Paint-to-Sample. Amazing price as I had this one at $850,000. But sometimes all it takes is two bidders and one unicorn.
