2012 Cayman R 6-Speed

A strong number despite some mileage on this lightweight treat

The 2012 Cayman R debuted at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show as a more purist, track-focused evolution of the Cayman S. It shed 121 pounds while gaining ten horsepower, thanks to a 3.4-liter flat-six producing 330 hp. Weight savings came from deleting items like air conditioning and the radio, along with aluminum doors, while a lowered sport suspension and standard limited-slip differential sharpened the chassis for serious driver engagement.

This 2012 Cayman R 6-Speed was finished in Guards Red over a Black leather interior and showed 22,000 miles. It was well optioned with Full Leather and Alcantara, a lightweight battery, Sport Chrono Package Plus, Sport Shifter, and additional equipment, bringing the original MSRP to $101,195. The car presented in very nice condition and was supported by a clean CarFax and plenty of service records.

Over the last twelve months, 987.2 Cayman R values have averaged $69,100, with a low of $56,000 and a high of $93,500, the latter achieved by a 1,900-mile example sold in August. Mileage comps put our Spotlight Car in the $60,000–75,000 range, but it exceeded those expectations, selling at a final bid of $83,987.
