2012 Cayman R 6-Speed

Records were meant to be broken, again and again

The 2012 Porsche Cayman R debuted at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show as a lighter, sharper version of the already well-regarded Cayman S. Porsche trimmed 121 pounds by stripping out unnecessary weight—removing the radio and A/C (though both could be added back), fitting lightweight aluminum doors, and using a fixed rear spoiler. It also gained 10 horsepower over the Cayman S, bringing the total to 330 hp from its 3.4-liter flat-six. Combined with a lower ride height and stiffer suspension, the Cayman R delivered one of the most focused driving experiences in the 987 lineup.

This 2012 Cayman R 6-Speed shows just 7k miles and comes finished in Black over a matching leather and Alcantara interior. Options include automatic air conditioning and Sound Package Plus, adding a bit of comfort to the lightweight R spec. A CARFAX report notes “moderate damage” to the rear and right-rear sides from a 2015 incident, though the gallery provides detailed photos, paint meter readings, and a recent DME report to document its current condition. Overall, it presents as a low-mile example of Porsche’s driver-focused Cayman.

Over the past twelve months manual Cayman Rs have averaged $62,900 with a low of $56,000 and a high of $68,000 with our Spotlight car selling for $65,000 back in April of this year. This time around it not only beat its earlier sales price, but set a new twelve-month high at a final bid of $72,500.
