2015 918 Spyder

This one brought the bids in an up market, but it wasn't enough

The 918 Spyder was first shown as a concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010, with the production version debuting in September 2013 at the Frankfurt Motor Show as Porsche’s follow-up to the Carrera GT and its entry into the hybrid hypercar era. Power came from a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 producing 608 horsepower, supplemented by two electric motors adding a combined 279 horsepower, for a total system output of 887 horsepower. Its carbon fiber reinforced plastic body featured a two-piece Targa roof and distinctive top-exit exhausts positioned just behind the cockpit, combining advanced technology with striking design.

This 2015 918 Spyder, number 405 of 918 produced, was finished in Meteor Grey Metallic over Onyx Black leather with Acid Green accents and showed 5,200 miles. Optioned with Front Axle Lift, Carbon Fiber Interior Package, and more, it had an original MSRP of $870,900. The sale included its window sticker, service history, and a pair of scale models.

Over the past twelve months, the market for 918s across online and in-person auctions has averaged ~$3,000,000, with a low of $2,301,000 and a high of $6,050,000* for the GT3 RS Orange example sold at Barrett-Jackson in January. Our Spotlight Car was a more typical spec, if there is such a thing, with average mileage, a standard color (more or less), and no Weissach Package. I had it slightly below the above average given how much the top end is skewed by Weissach cars and that Orange outlier, with a high estimate of $2,750,000. It came close, bid to $2,740,000, but not enough to get it done.
