2016 Boxster Spyder

Are 981s on the rise? This sale says so.

The 2016 Boxster Spyder debuted at the New York International Auto Show as the most driver-focused version of the 981 Boxster. Powered by a 375-horsepower 3.8-liter flat-six borrowed from the 911 Carrera S and paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual, it combined serious performance with a lightweight, stripped-back approach. Unique styling included the signature double-hump rear deck and manually operated soft top. Unlike the Cayman GT4, which borrowed GT3 suspension components and rode quite stiffly, the Spyder retained a more compliant setup, making it a fantastic road car and canyon companion. With roughly 2,500 produced globally, it remains one of the most sought-after modern Boxsters.

This 2016 Boxster Spyder came finished in GT Silver Metallic with a Black soft top over a Garnet Red and Black interior and showed 19,600 miles. Nicely optioned with the Spyder Classic Interior Package, BOSE, wheels painted in Satin Black, and extended-range fuel tank, it carried an original MSRP of $95,115. Overall, a very nice one-owner example with a clean CarFax, though it lacked much in the way of service history, with only a single receipt included in the gallery.

Over the past twelve months, 981 Boxster Spyder values have averaged $98,200, with a low of $83,000 and a high of $130,000 for a 3,800-mile Paint-to-Sample Mexico Blue example. Remove that PTS car from the equation, and the high drops to $106,888. Despite the mileage, our Spotlight Car still managed to become the second-highest sale we’ve seen (and highest non-PTS), hammering at a final bid of $116,000.
