2023 Brabus 900 Rocket R

Big money for this Blue Rocket

Brabus was founded in 1977 in Bottrop, Germany, by Bodo Buschmann and Klaus Brackmann, with the name derived from the first three letters of their surnames. The origin story is fittingly automotive: Buschmann, a Porsche 911 owner at the time, was pressured by his father, who ran a Mercedes-Benz dealership, to replace it with a W116 S-Class. Finding the Mercedes too sedate compared to his 911, Buschmann began modifying it to deliver comparable performance, a pursuit that quickly attracted customers and ultimately gave rise to Brabus as a high-performance Mercedes-Benz specialist. For over four decades, Brabus focused exclusively on Mercedes-Benz, Smart, and Maybach. However, under the leadership of Bodo’s son, Constantin Buschmann, the company began expanding its portfolio to other exclusive marques, including Porsche.

This 2023 Brabus 900 Rocket R was No. 1 of just 25 produced worldwide and one of only two examples legal for road use in the United States. Finished in Mexico Blue, it featured Brabus’s full carbon-fiber body package with Kevlar wheel-arch liners, while the interior was trimmed in Mexico Blue Brabus Masterpiece quilted leather with an Alcantara headliner, carbon-fiber accents, and Shadow Chrome detailing. Power came from a Brabus-tuned 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six producing 900 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

This is the only Brabus 900 Rocket R to cross the block, leaving little in the way of direct comps. The closest reference point I have is a 2022 Turbo Coupe built by Mansory that sold for $330,000 last year. A big number, but one that doesn’t hold a candle to the price our Spotlight Car brought as it sold for $1,100,000.
