959-Style 1983 911SC

Big money for a sheep in wolf's clothing

With just 337 units produced, coming across a 959 at your local cars & coffee is a pretty rare occurrence. But, I’m sure some will see this and think, “oh my! a 959!” As I said last week, this “replica” wears a pretty darn-good 959-style body with a few exterior tells like the front bumper lines and rear wheel depth being the giveaways. I also stated that I wouldn’t be surprised if this hit over $50k. Boy was I off.

This 1983 911SC has been fitted with a fiberglass 959-style body in Silver that was completed by the previous owner, so not much info on the work. Reading through the comments section, it looks like this one was from Getty design, a company that fabricated these replica bodies in the ‘80s/’90s. On the inside, the Maroon leather interior remains all SC as does the engine, and the car comes with a single service record from 2006, although there are some on the CarFax.

This was pretty much impossible to put a number on, with comps either being recent cabriolets or coupes that hammered quite some time ago with prices ranging from ~$20k to $50k. The highest bid I could find was for a 1995 993 Turbo that was bid to €145,001 last year, but the base car played a lot into that number. Like I said, I was thinking over $50k, as this body looked very well done, and it was just plain cool. But it sold at a final bid of $92,959. Dayum.
